Vegetarianism, eating meat and food in general – Part 2

Vegetarianism, eating meat and food in general – What does the Bible say about it? – Part 2

Food is one of the few things that can bring people together in a group to enjoy time together. Food is important in a physical sense to sustain, but how important is it really? Although there is nothing new under the sun, we hear about ongoing changes in diet suggestions from so many different health guru’s about what we should eat. Now there is an ever growing trend of eating organic and whole food, which I would agree with, but the challenge then comes, where do we find them and how much are we willing to spend for them? This world is at a very interesting crossroads, and among other things, food quality, availability and variety are at the top of some of our concerns in our daily life. This week we will talk about the topic of food using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice…cont’d.

Next, let’s talk about the laws of the Bible and different diet trends today. The Old Testament has a list of do not eat laws; mostly they are of things that commonly are not eaten in the developed world (Deuteronomy 14:3-21). But there are somethings, such as shell fish and pork that is still common diet in all corners of the world. Now regarding diet “trends”, I will admit I cannot say that I understand them completely, but there is a verse in 1 Timothy 4:1-4, that may describe many of the food guru’s and their health tips today. I am not suggesting that they are all wrong, but the point is; the Bible does have direction and much direction on healthy eating, if we would just follow it! However, that is the challenge.

More to come…
