Angels, Demons and the Spirit World – What is going on beyond what we can see with our eyes? – Part 4

To say that I have the perfect answer to the question would be a lie. I know for certain that there is a spirit world. Without getting into it too deeply, I will say that there is a spirit world because there is the knowledge of both good and bad that takes place in this world today. Not only that but there are things that take place, that cannot really be explained any other way other than that “outside” forces are acting in this physical world that we cannot see. I do not know if you have experienced these “outside” forces, but if you have you know what I am talking about. This week I will tackle the question of “Is there a spirit world”, using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice…cont’d.

Last, we cannot know and understand everything that is happening on all levels in the natural or spirit world, at least I don’t. But it is good to know that we have a Saviour who wants us to put our trust in Him to lead us in this life and into eternity (Romans 15:13). Jesus Christ gave power to His disciples to cast out evil spirits, heal the sick and preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God, in Jesus’s name (Luke 9:1, 2). If you believe, you can and do have these same powers, first in your own life and then in helping others. Take this all in stride and with a wise foundation in the knowledge of Christ and God first (Ephesians 2:19-22). But once you begin to notice the positive changes in your own life. You may very well be able to help others make positive changes in their own lives as well, through the healing power of Jesus Christ and His promises (1 Peter 2:24).

Now let’s talk about some of the more “mysterious” beings mentioned in the Bible, namely, the “Giants”. I have heard of people suggesting that they are aliens or something to that affect, but the truth is the Bible makes it pretty simple. They were just big people. Albeit they had 6 fingers and toes on each hand and foot (Numbers 13:33, 2 Samuel 21:20). They were still just men. There is also mention of the works of angels, namely Michael and Gabriel, a king named Melchizedek “King of Righteousness”, and the “Sons of God” (Rev. 12:7, Luke 1:19, Hebrews 7:1, 2; Genesis 6:2, Job 1:6). The point is that we very clearly are not alone. And the good news is we have a Spirit world that is for us and for our protection and there to help in our trials and tribulations (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

Next, the discussion of the “reality” of evil and its existence can be an unpleasant topic to discuss to say the least. But the reality is that there is too much evidence in this world to prove that evil does exist. There are specific locations in the Bible that can better reveal the truth of who or what the evil is. It has taken me some time to read through and discover many of the location, but they are there. Ezekiel 28 talks about a “king of tyre” being in the Garden of Eden (Ezekiel 28:12-15). Revelation 12 talks about a dragon sweeping a “third of the stars” from heaven (Rev. 12:3, 4). Isaiah 14 speaks about the “fall of Lucifer” (Isaiah 14:12). Job 1 showed Satan’s access to God (Job 1:6, 7). And there are multiple more verses, especially in the New Testament, where Jesus contested with Satan in the wilderness, and rebuked him during His ministry through people and demons (Matt. 4:1-11, Mark 8:33, John 8:44, Matt. 17:18). Last the apostles warned in numerous circumstances of the devil and his ways (2 Corinthians 2:10, 11; 1 Peter 5:8, Ephesians 2:1, 2). The point is there exists a real “force” in this world today that is out to destroy. However the good news is you do not have to fear his existence (Matt. 10:28)!

Science tends to explain the world from a physical perspective. However, there are still some unanswered questions in science, namely, “Where did our Universe come from?” or “How was it formed?”. There are spirit “guides” and other sorts of people who are intrigued by the powers that may exist outside of us, such as, fortune tellers, ghost hunters, etc. But what is the reality of all of this? Well first, let’s look at two parallel verses in the Bible that may be able to begin to explain this. Genesis 1:1-2 says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”, and John 1:1-3 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”
