Though war should rise against us in this shall we be confident

Psalm 27:3 says, “Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.” (Ps. 27:3). Jesus came to earth, conceived by the Holy Ghost, in the virgin, Mary, born of the virgin, Mary, espoused to Joseph (Matt. 1:18-25). He had brothers and sisters (Mark 6:3). He started His earthly ministry at about the age of thirty (Luke 3:23). And for three and a half years, He healed, did miracles, and forgave sins. And at Passover in 31 A.D., Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, He was buried, and the third day He arose to give us the hope and promise of eternal life in His Holy name. Alleluia and praise the LORD. Amen and Amen.

God is our confidence

Proverbs 3:26 says, “For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” (Prov. 3:26). Faith – What does it mean and how do we get it? – Part 5

Faith – What does it mean and how do we get it? – Part 5

The very idea of faith is universal. There is no one religion or institution here on earth that can control the idea of faith. And you either have it or you do not. It is not forced upon a person and it cannot be taken away without a mighty struggle. But in the end it may be one of the most powerful tools we have as believers in our struggles with our daily lives here on earth and with the rest of humanity in our relationships with each other and our Almighty Creator. This week we will talk about the topic of faith, using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice…cont’d.

Although faith is an important tool in our toolbox to “attack” life’s challenges, it is not the most important of all tools. The Bible talks about three subjects in our walk with God here on earth; they are Faith, Hope and Love. The most important of which is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). It is great to have faith, but without acting on that faith we are nothing. Showing the love of God to others is the greatest way to display your faith in Christ. This requires taking up your cross daily and following Christ (Matt. 11:29). And when you no longer have the strength for any of it, give your burdens to Christ and wait on Him and the Holy Spirit to move you (Isaiah 40:31, Psalm 55:22).

Faith in and of itself is great, but without action or “works” faith is dead, so says James the apostle (James 2:17). When thinking of doing works to act out your faith think outside the box. Abrahams willingness to sacrifice his son was considered a work (James 2:21-24). So again, think outside the box when working out your faith in Christ and His promises for you and your life here on earth! Abrahams “work” is an example of faith building, because faith is strengthened through tests or trials. Receiving faith in Christ is just the beginning, but in order to “endure to the end” it takes trials in our lives to learn patience, and steadfastness in our faith in Christ and His promises for us (1 Peter 1:6, 7). Take a look at any godly person in the Bible and you will find a list of trials each of them have gone through in their lives that tested and eventually strengthened their faith in God.

Where does our faith actually come from? Well, the only reason to even need or consider having faith is because we desire something that is not already in our life. Christ was an amazing example of faith. He did things and in frequency and quantity like no other man has ever done in human history. Of course, there are a multitude of examples of miracles in the Bible done through faith in God. However, Christ showed us the true power of faith in God, through the resurrection of His own body after death (John 10:18). If you believe it, Jesus is the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2)! Your faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the Word of God (Romans 10:17)!

In my opinion every human being has a measure of faith given to them at birth. Call it our spirit or our soul, etc. that is fine. But it is that little pilot light in our bodies that believes. That believes we have oxygen to breath. That believes that the earth is going to continue rotating and we are not going to float off into outer space. And that the sun is going to rise in the morning like it has throughout human history. And although we all may have a measure of faith at some point of time in our lives, we can always ask for more (Luke 11:9). However, no matter how much faith you have, “with faith of a mustard seed [a very small seed], you can move mountains” (Matt. 17:20).

There have been many times in my life where I have taken a step out of my “comfort zone” without completely knowing the consequences of my actions. And I will admit I still make these same choices daily in my life now. I am not always confident about the outcome, but so far “Life” has been good to me. The Bible defines faith as “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1). The very definition of faith is; trust, confidence, belief, firmness, steadiness or fidelity. Faith is believing, trusting or having confidence in something we cannot see or something that we desire that has not yet taken place.
