By the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified

Romans 3:20 says, “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” (Rom. 3:20). Jesus came to earth, conceived by the Holy Ghost, in the virgin, Mary, born of the virgin, Mary, espoused to Joseph (Matt. 1:18-25). He had brothers and sisters (Mark 6:3). He started His earthly ministry at about the age of thirty (Luke 3:23). And for three and a half years, He healed, did miracles, and forgave sins. And at Passover in 31 A.D., Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, He was buried, and the third day He arose to give us the hope and promise of eternal life in His Holy name. Alleluia and praise the LORD. Amen and Amen.

Thoughts, Words and Deeds – Can we really move mountains? – Part 5

Our brains are very powerful tools. The human mind has thought up many wonderful inventions over the course of the last few thousand years. When we speak our thoughts, this is the start of manifesting them into reality, after this come’s action, either by ourselves, others who are listening to us or both. Our thoughts, words and deed are very powerful, but can we really move mountains with them? In this article we will tackle this question using the Bible as the go to reference book…cont’d.

Last, the mind is the starting place of all things that are manifested in our lives, through our words and deeds (Romans 12:2). We must all be mindful of the things we think, the things we say and the things we ultimately act out based on our thoughts and words (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Our minds are the breeding grounds for creating great things in our societies, like cures for diseases, new technologies that make daily life easier and advances in the sciences such as space travel. However, they are also the starting points for ideological disasters such as the holocaust, wars and other criminal behaviour, of which none of us are 100% impervious from (Philippians 4:6-8). But if we can recognize and control the thoughts that develop in our minds, then we have a much better chance of speaking and acting out blessings, in our own lives and the lives of others (Romans 8:13).

Also, the tongue can speak blessings into life. Take the current situation in Ferguson, Missouri for example. A young man was shot to death for scuffling with the police. Now this is not a new circumstance, but never the less something went wrong in the justification of the solution to the situation. But is it possible that the right words from the right person could help solve this mistake? It is very possibly the case. As the Bible says, “…A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver…” (Proverbs 25:11 KJV). Let’s pray that someone says the right words to help bring this situation to a mutual resolution and soon.

Next, onto moving mountains, in Matthew 17:20, it says, “…with faith as small as a mustard seed you can move mountains…” Now this could be a mental mountain like taking the next step in your life, in overcoming a mountainous fear, which is stopping you from reaching “greener pastures” on the other side. Or it could possibly be a physical thing, think of open pit mining, large scale logging or major military operations. Men speak “commands”, to a team of loyal and trusted followers to quite literally accomplish tasks that are very similar to moving mountains. In fact, if one takes a drive through various mountainous regions of our countries, you can find roadways that have been carved through or into mountains. Is this not a form of moving mountains?

Now, let’s go onto the positive power of the tongue. The first and best example is the creation event. God’s spirit was hovering over His “formless and empty” deeps of the water on earth and He said, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:1-3). These four words were the words spoken that helped create the many processes required for our survival here on earth, from photosynthesis in plants to solar energy for running cars. These same “Words” were manifested in the flesh through Jesus Christ about 2000 years ago (John 1:1-4).

First, let’s talk about the phrase “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”. Although this is a good philosophy to have in order to protect one’s mind from negative criticism and out right bullying, it should be noted that the tongue or words are extremely powerful. As the Bible says, “Life and death are in the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). In the first section of James 3, he goes into detail about the evil powers of the tongue.
