Fearing God’s goodness was prophesied to happen

Hosea 3:5 says, “Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and his goodness in the latter days.” (Hos. 3:5). Jesus came to earth, conceived by the Holy Ghost, in the virgin, Mary, born of the virgin, Mary, espoused to Joseph (Matt. 1:18-25). He had brothers and sisters (Mark 6:3). He started His earthly ministry at about the age of thirty (Luke 3:23). And for three and a half years, He healed, did miracles, and forgave sins. And at Passover in 31 A.D., Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, He was buried, and the third day He arose to give us the hope and promise of eternal life in His Holy name. Alleluia and praise the LORD. Amen and Amen.

Freedom from fear

The apostle John said that perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). And Jesus said do not let your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid (John 14:27). Jesus and God do not desire us to live in fear, but in love! Smarts, Intelligence and Decisions – How do we fight fear with knowledge and sound decision making? – Part 5

Headlines in the news are getting more gruesome and closer to “home” by the day. Murders, Illness’s and terrorism are looming large, but the solutions do not seem to be readily available. Some suggest that we ought to “nuke” them all, while others suggest “peace” is the solution. Although the book of Ecclesiastes would suggest that there is a time for both war and peace (Ecclesiastes 3:8). How do we know when to put forth our best foot, be diplomatic and to an extent “turn the other cheek” or when do we say enough is enough and allow “God’s wrath” to unfold on the evils of this seemingly unsuspecting world? In this article we will talk about making sound decisions based on facts and intelligence, using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice…cont’d.

Last, we must remember amongst other things the character of God. The character we ought to be developing. There are two verses in particular that come to mind, first, “love is not easily provoked”, second, “in our patience we possess our souls” (1 Corinthians 13:5, Luke 21:19). The one is required for the other to work. And, although there is no doubt that these tragic, inhumane and barbaric events are taking place around the world, and sometimes in our own backyards, we must remember that we are to be patient and love (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

Considering terrorism in particular, these men make evil plans, to either kill large groups of people, convince people to commit suicide while at the same time killing others, or in more recent news, use our own countrymen against us in media releases that encourage their propaganda. The latter is a form of psychological terror, the likes of which this world has had no opportunity to see until the recent advent of instant global communications through the internet and online video making. But in the end all of these men’s efforts will utterly fail (Psalm 7:14-16).

Next, let’s talk about a Biblical application of standing up for what we understand to be the truth and right way of doing things. Jesus is the perfect prophet to learn from in fighting evil, as He cast out demons (Matthew 8:28-34), was tempted by Satan and ultimately gave His life up on the cross for our sins (Matthew 4:1-11, 1 Peter 2:24). In one particular circumstance He was speaking against the scribes who were accusing Him of being demon possessed Himself for casting out demons from others (Mark 3:22). But Jesus knew that He could not possibly be demon possessed, as a “kingdom divided against itself cannot stand” (Mark 3:23-27). The truth is the same in the world today, evil is evil, no matter where you go and same goes for good. It is up to us as a people to discern what is happening and not allow the evil to divide the good (James 4:7).

Next, let’s look at any number of school shootings in North America in the last decade. One in particular has come to my attention recently, that is, the Columbine shooting. Although I had learned about this through the news media and Michael Moore’s movie, Bowling for Columbine, in the days and years following the incident. I have come to learn an even more sinister reason behind these shootings in recent days. That is the pure hatred for anything good and loving by these shooters. This knowledge is based on a documentary that has recently been released  to help youth and young adults overcome some of the greatest challenges this generation currently faces. That is the unending inundation of information and idea’s, good and bad, by the media, school mates, and the commercial markets of this world on how they should live their lives.

First, let’s talk about the recent young hero  of the Middle East country, Pakistan, who was shot because she wanted an education. She has now recovered and is a voice and advocate for freedom of education and opportunities for not only women but a whole section of the world who struggle with ancient customs that, at the least, hinder the opportunity for education and the learning process much of the rest of the world enjoy. As this youth has found out, “Wisdom is better than weapons of war”, Ecclesiastes 9:18.

Who should you fear…? – Last Part

Who should you fear…? – Part 7

Now we must apply this truth to our lives and we will receive the same protections those ancient Israelites did so long ago. God says in Deuteronomy, “I set before you, life and death, blessings and cursing’s, I would that you choose life and live long in the land I have given you” (Deuteronomy 30:19)… cont’d.

God gives us the choice; we can obey Him or the world. The real question is whom do you want to serve? To learn more read the book, “Seven Steps to Freedom”. It is available at online bookstores or through the website below.

Who should you fear…? – Part 6

On a physical level we can fear many things, but from a practical level we are usually considered the top of the food chain. So whom should we fear? …cont’d.

Now regarding this destroyer, is it not clear whom this maybe? If not, I will go out on a limb and suggest that it is the same destroyer we were talking about earlier. The point of all of this is that God was in control over this whole entire situation, it took obedience by the Israelites to be protected from this plague. The same will hold true for believers in this day and age, however it is not physical blood that is required. That was done away with at the cross.

The one sign in particular I am going to talk about is the Passover sign or plague if you will. This is where all of the first born animals and people of Egypt would be killed, but the Israelites would be spared (Exodus 11, 12). Now in order for the Israelites to be protected from this plague, they were to cover the door posts of their houses with blood. This was so that the “destroyer” would know that these houses were not to be touched (Exodus 12:23). This was the first institution of the Passover and the days of unleavened bread. About 1000 years later this institution would be echoed, as Christ became the eternal Passover lamb at his death, but this can be read more about in another article – Jesus Crucifixion and Resurrection in a Nutshell.
