God, the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit have plans to prosper us and give us health, not to harm us

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jer. 29:11). 3 John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 1:2). Jesus came to earth, conceived by the Holy Ghost, in the virgin, Mary, born of the virgin, Mary, espoused to Joseph (Matt. 1:18-25). He had brothers and sisters (Mark 6:3). He started His earthly ministry at about the age of thirty (Luke 3:23). And for three and a half years, He healed, did miracles, and forgave sins. And at Passover in 31 A.D., Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, He was buried, and the third day He arose to give us the hope and promise of eternal life in His Holy name. Alleluia and praise the LORD. Amen and Amen.

Doing good is good for our health

Proverbs 3:7 and 8 says, “Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy flesh and marrow to thy bones.” (Prov. 3:7, 8).

Jesus is our health

Psalm 43:5 says, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” (Ps. 43:5).

Healthcare and God

I have had a chance to do some thinking recently, and although I have written about the subject before I wanted to address this subject of Health from a different angle. To keep it simple, I would like to say there is nothing wrong with healthcare in and of itself, the problem lies in whom we give credit to for healing. In the Bible, there are examples of people not giving credit to God for their circumstances, and they are punished for it (Daniel 4:30-33, Acts 12:21-23). So regardless of what medical intervention we do or do not partake in this life, give the glory, credit and thanks to God and His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, for our healing. Jesus came to save us from our sins, He was crucified for the forgiveness of our sins, He was buried and the third day He arose from death to give us the hope and promise of eternal life in His Holy name. Alleluia and praise the Lord. Amen and Amen.

Drinking, being sober and the Bible – Part 3

Drinking, being sober and the Bible – Part 3

I suppose this article could be about more than just alcohol as there seems to be a long list of mood altering and pain relieving remedies available in the world today. Nevertheless, in this post I will speak from experience and let you project the idea’s into your life circumstances. And before I get into it too far, I would suggest, if you are reading or listening to this and your dependencies have gone on beyond your control and you need help. There are multiple organizations in our world, Thank God, that will help you with substance dependencies concerns. A doctor, a trusted friend and/or prayer is a great start. Never the less, this week I will talk about the topic of drinking, using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice…cont’d.

However, if you think you are being called by the Lord to live a life of sobriety or at least a controlled dependency on substances like alcohol, He can and will help you with that. It may be through a community group such as AA or it could be a doctor or some other form of fellowship. We all need support on our daily walk with God in this life. He never intended us to live this life alone. So if you think you need to make a change in your daily habits, put your trust in Him first. God through the healing power of Jesus Christ will deliver you from any chains of bondage you need or desire to get free from in this life. It will take a life time to follow Christ, but He is worth it!

Next, there are a multitude of verses, both in the New and Old Testament about drinking, how to drink responsibly, who should be drinking and who should not (Proverbs 20:1, Proverbs 31:4-8, Psalm 104:14, 15, Ecclesiastes 9:7, Ephesians 5:18, Romans 13:13, etc.). Not to mention the fact that different people have different “levels” of tolerance depending on their size and weight. Nevertheless, we are called to be sober and vigilant in our daily walk with Christ and others (1 Peter 5:7-8, 1 Corinthians 15:34). Alcohol or any substance dependencies can be a touchy subject, we all have to make our own choices in what is best for ourselves and the people around us. Sometimes that means sobering up and other times that may mean thinking twice before we have another one. The point is that we all have the opportunity to make our choices and live as we see fit. God gave us the freedom of choice and that includes what we put into our bodies.

First, the use of alcohol is probably as old as human history itself. So there are no surprises there. Noah is the first example that I can recall of alcohol usage mentioned in the Bible. After the flood Noah must have spent some time cultivating grapes and eventually produced wine (Genesis 9:21). And wine itself is said to have certain healing qualities to it, including antioxidants from the grape skins. In particular there is one New Testament verse that speaks of “taking a little bit of wine instead of water for sickness” (1 Timothy 5:23). Not to mention that Jesus turned water into wine and of great quality at a wedding (John 2:1-11). And He was accused of being a wine bibber Himself (Matthew 11:19).

Vegetarianism, eating meat and food in general – Part 3

Vegetarianism, eating meat and food in general – What does the Bible say about it? – Part 3

Food is one of the few things that can bring people together in a group to enjoy time together. Food is important in a physical sense to sustain, but how important is it really? Although there is nothing new under the sun, we hear about ongoing changes in diet suggestions from so many different health guru’s about what we should eat. Now there is an ever growing trend of eating organic and whole food, which I would agree with, but the challenge then comes, where do we find them and how much are we willing to spend for them? This world is at a very interesting crossroads, and among other things, food quality, availability and variety are at the top of some of our concerns in our daily life. This week we will talk about the topic of food using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice…cont’d.

Last, Jesus made it very clear. He said “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink…. Is not life more than food…?” (Matthew 6:25). Another verse speaks of how we ought to treat each other in our different diet choices (Romans 14:1-23). And then again regarding judging eating habits just like judging in general, Colossians 2:16 says, “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink…”. The point is that Jesus is always what our daily habits, eating or otherwise should point to. He died for us and He was raised to glory. He made it very clear about who He was. He said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35). So whatever your eating habits, consider the true reason you live. Think of the miracles Jesus did with the fishes and loaves, think about the fasting that took place at length with Elijah and Jesus, think about Daniel and his men given strength by eating vegetables and think about the miracles of manna from heaven that took place in the desert of Sinai. Let’s remember that God is our provider and that all things come from Him. Praise our God!

Next, let’s talk about the laws of the Bible and different diet trends today. The Old Testament has a list of do not eat laws; mostly they are of things that commonly are not eaten in the developed world (Deuteronomy 14:3-21). But there are somethings, such as shell fish and pork that is still common diet in all corners of the world. Now regarding diet “trends”, I will admit I cannot say that I understand them completely, but there is a verse in 1 Timothy 4:1-4, that may describe many of the food guru’s and their health tips today. I am not suggesting that they are all wrong, but the point is; the Bible does have direction and much direction on healthy eating, if we would just follow it! However, that is the challenge.

Just like everything else, food was created to enjoy, but can also be a contentious issue with all of the different allergies, diet trends, etc. But what does the Bible say about all of this? First Proverbs 15:17 says, “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a fatted calf with hatred” (NKJV). In Proverbs 17:1 says, “Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife” (NKJV).  And Genesis 9:3 says, “Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs” (NKJV). I will get into the New Testament account of what the Bible says next, but the point is, we are not to make food a contentious issue. It is meant to be enjoyed, whatever and however much we eat or do not eat.
