Jesus taught that labouring is not the solution, He is! Whatever you do do it for the LORD.

Luke 12:24-31 says, “Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Luke 12:24-31). Ephesians 2:8 and 9 say, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2:8, 9). Colossians 3:23 and 24 say, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” (Col. 3:23, 24). Jesus came to earth, conceived by the Holy Ghost, in the virgin, Mary, born of the virgin, Mary, espoused to Joseph (Matt. 1:18-25). He had brothers and sisters (Mark 6:3). He started His earthly ministry at about the age of thirty (Luke 3:23). And for three and a half years, He healed, did miracles, and forgave sins. And at Passover in 31 A.D., Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, He was buried, and the third day He arose to give us the hope and promise of eternal life in His Holy name. Alleluia and praise the LORD. Amen and Amen.

The Bible prophesied immigrant labour for farming

Isaiah 61:5 says, “And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.” (Isa. 61:5). Jesus came to earth, conceived by the Holy Ghost, in the virgin, Mary, born of the virgin, Mary, espoused to Joseph (Matt. 1:18-25). He had brothers and sisters (Mark 6:3). It is good for you to enjoy the good of all your labour

Ecclesiastes 5:18 says, “Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.” (Eccl. 5:18). Work, Labour and Wages – Is your 9 to 5 job part of God’s plan? – Part 5

Work, Labour and Wages – Is your 9 to 5 job part of God’s plan? – Part 5

At times especially in this economic climate it can seem that we are running on the hamster wheel and never accomplishing much. We pick up in the morning where we left of the day before and the work just keeps coming, always piling up, but there never seems to be an end. The era of a sea of office cubicals, manufacturing assembly lines and the like seem to go on forever. At times we may ask ourselves; Is this what life is all about? Why am I doing this job? Is there a greater purpose behind our daily work, or are we just grinding away until we go back to the place we came from? This week we will talk about our daily work and how it fits into the bigger plan, using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice…cont’d.

Last, taking a break now and again from work is important. Of course the Bible says work 6 days and rest the 7th (Exodus 34:21). However in this modern world of technology and 24 hour work days, with companies opening their doors 24/7 in some cases, it makes this command challenging for some people. But if you can start your rest in your mind first, developing your own view of what rest looks like you will have a much easier time creating an environment at work or at home that reflects the rest you are looking for. This topic of rest will also be spoken of in more detail in a later post.

So enjoy your work, and look forward to rest! To learn more about developing plans for your work and personal life, read the book, Seven Steps to Freedom. Available today!

I have often been told by a close elder, that when you work, do it for the Lord (Colossians 3:23). This ring’s true for everybody. It is kind of like saying “take pride in your work”. When we are not trying to please our human bosses, but trying to attain the “higher goal”, the “bigger vision”, it makes reaching that goal less stressful. As the Bible says, “seek first the Kingdom of God and all other things will be given to you” (Matthew 6:3). This subject of the Kingdom of God will be spoken of in more depth in another post.

Just like everything else in life, we go through changes in our work environment. It does not necessarily mean we leave a specific company. It may be as easy as a promotion or demotion to a different job more fitting to our goals at that point in time of our lives (Ecclesiastes 3:1). This could also include leaving a company altogether for another job opportunity, but nevertheless, change is good (Joshua 1:9). So if you are feeling restless at your current position ask yourself and do some praying about what may be a solution to that problem. It may be as easy a solution as changing your work environment, like listening to a music station or taking some mid-day break for meditation or “nap” time. But the point is, even those little breaks can really make a positive change in the day to day stresses that come at us from our work environment.

Next, our work is important to enjoy (Ecclesiastes 2:24). If we do not enjoy the work we do how can we do a good job at it? It may take sometime to figure out what you are best at doing in this world. As I know it has taken me sometime, but any job we do, regardless of how long we work at it, can teach us somethings for the next step we take in life. This is part of what life is all about, living and learning from our day to day work. Some of us of course are better at certain jobs than others, but regardless, the lesson’s you learn from your work, can be used for the rest of your life!

Of course there are many reasons for why a person may be working in a particular job, such as supplementing income, a new baby being on the way, extra cash for schooling or just to pay the bills at the end of the month. But is there something greater than just doing that job to pay the bills? First, taking care of your family ought to be a priority, although money is not the only way to take care of one’s family, if you are the “bread winner”, it certainly helps (1 Timothy 5:8). There are also some other verses in the Bible that suggest money answers many questions (Ecclesiastes 10:19). The point is, doing a job to solely earn money is not necessarily a sin (2 Thessalonians 3:10). However, working with integrity and honesty to help others should be just as important as the hourly wage or salary you receive (1 Timothy 6:10).
