Act out your repentance

Jesus says in Matthew 3:8, “Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:” (Matt. 3:8). Jesus came to earth, conceived by the Holy Ghost, in the virgin, Mary, born of the virgin, Mary, espoused to Joseph (Matt. 1:18-25). He had brothers and sisters (Mark 6:3). He started His earthly ministry at about the age of thirty (Luke 3:23). And for three and a half years, He healed, did miracles, and forgave sins. And at Passover in 31 A.D., Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, He was buried, and the third day He arose to give us the hope and promise of eternal life in His Holy name. Alleluia and praise the LORD. Amen and Amen.

God’s goodness leads us to repentance

Romans 2:4 says, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” (Rom. 2:4). Alleluia and praise the LORD. Amen and Amen.

God’s goodness leads us to repentance

The apostle Paul said that God’s goodness leads us to repentance (Rom. 2:4). And the Bible says that God is good to all (Ps. 145:9). Jesus is the good shepherd (John 10:11-18). Citizens of the kingdom of God

The apostle Paul says in Ephesians 2 that we are fellowcitizens with the saints (Eph. 2:19). This is the kingdom of God promise we have now (Luke 17:20, 21)! We do not need to wait any longer to be apart of God’s kingdom, all we have to do is repent and accept God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth into our life. Repentance – Part 3

Repentance – What is it? – Part 3

Change can be a very hard thing to face. We get very comfortable in our daily, weekly and life routines whatever they may be at the time, but that does not always mean they are 100% right. We habits affect our attitude, physical health and mental health, both for ourselves an others around us. But what can we do about it? This week I will talk about the developing a repentant attitude using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice…cont’d.

Last, we need to remember that we can “try” to be good as much as we want, but that is not going to work out in the end. We have all of these “causes” in the world that we support that are good in and of themselves, but none of these works can save us from death or earn us a spot in heaven (Ephesians 2:8, 9). Our sinful nature is far beyond anything we can control by ourselves, we need God to help us control and resist our fleshly and carnal desires that bring about death (Romans 6:23). The point is that faith in Jesus Christ is really the only answer to our problems, sins, bad habits, etc. We cannot work our way out of our sins they can only be blotted out by Jesus Christ’s blood (1 Peter 1:18, 19). He gave His life for us, so that we can live (1 John 3:16, 1 John 4:9). Not to live for sin and death, but to live for God and life in Christ Jesus, who was, is and is to come!

Change can be a very hard thing to face. We get very comfortable in our daily, weekly and life routines whatever they may be at the time, but that does not always mean they are 100% right. We habits affect our attitude, physical health and mental health, both for ourselves an others around us. But what can we do about it? This week I will talk about the developing a repentant attitude using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice.

What is sin? For a Biblical interpretation, “Sin is the transgression of the law” (1 John 3:4). In laymen’s terms, it is anything we say, think or do that goes against or is un-agreeable with God’s ways, will and commands. Now that all being said the Bible says that, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23). That is why we need Jesus, because we are all sinners, whether we believe it or not. John said, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8). The point is that we need a relationship with God and we need His atoning sacrifice through Jesus Christ to cleanse us of our sins (1 John 2:2). As the Bible says, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

We habits affect our attitude, physical health and mental health, both for ourselves an others around us. But what can we do about it? This week I will talk about the developing a repentant attitude using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice.

First, repentance, in essence is turning away from some behaviour, attitude and/or habitual action that causes damage to ourselves, others and ultimately our relationship with God. It is recognizing that we are doing something in our routine that is not “good” and/or sinful. Determining what is “good” and is not “good” is the challenge. We have social norms in our society, but even society can let us down at times, not to mention the fact that we can develop our own opinions of what this world, our nation and community are saying to us. And even to a greater point there are multiple stories in the Bible that show that entire communities and even nations can turn away from God, such as Nineveh, Sodom and Gomorrah, Ancient Israel, Ancient Egypt, Babylon and the list goes on. The point is we need a higher standard than just the people around us and social norms in general to dictate our behaviour, especially if those social norms are not pleasing in the eyes of our Maker. This is where our conscience, godly counsel, Biblical wisdom and the Holy Spirit come in.

What is sin and what can you do about it? – Part 5

What is sin and what can you do about it? – Part 5

Sin can come in many forms and can be called by many names. We can call sins; problems, mistakes, accidents, transgressions, and the list will go on. Regardless of what we call them, if we can identify them, that is half the battle. We have all sinned in our lives and have “fallen short of the Glory of God”, but what can we do about it (Romans 3:23)? Let’s find out this week what a sin really is and see if you and I can find a solution to them, using the Bible as the go to reference book of choice….cont’d.

Jesus Christ is that light. He was, is and is to come! He knows you, your sins, your weakness’s and your strengths. He knew you before you were born and He has a plan for your life! The Ten Commandments can be wrapped up in two sentences. Love God and Love your neighbour (Mark 12:30-31). This is what Christ taught and with His help, you can keep these commandments as well! As Christ said, “Take my yoke upon you, my yoke is easy, my burden is light” (Matthew 11:29). If you are having a problem with sin any sin, lay it at the feet of the Master, Christ Jesus. He will lift you of your burdens and sin. I know, because He does mine!

Another alternative; may be to turn to the world for solutions. I have attempted this more than one time in my life. Whether it is covering guilt with alcohol, drugs, running away or believing that if I did the right thing, whatever that may be, for long enough I would be forgiven for my past mistakes. But the reality is God does not work like that. He see’s everything we do, and knows the thoughts we have (Psalm 139:2). The key is to stop running away from our guilt and problems, stop covering them up with more sins, and confront them, call them out. Expose them to the light (John 1:5)!

Next, we can try and stop sinning ourselves, but the reality is, it is impossible! The Bible says that, “the carnal mind is enmity against God” (Romans 8:7). Meaning the human, “fleshly”, mind is the enemy of God and His ways. This is why we need His help in our lives. Accepting this is the next step in winning your battle against your sinful nature. We had the chance in the Garden of Eden, but chose to learn from the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 3:6). Now, some thousands of years later, we are still in the same world, with all of its temptations!
